Exploring capacity

We enjoyed exploring a variety of containers, filling them with water and measuring their capacity. We predicted first and then checked if we were right. We were all very surprised that 1 litre isn’t actually that much! We predicted a mug would be about 20ml and it turned out to be 300ml! We also said a bath would hold 3-4 litres but changed our mind after realising a small bucket held 5 litres!

This practical lesson really helped us to understand capacity, practise reading scales on measuring jugs and cylinders and, importantly, communication and working as a team!
