Welcome to our website which we hope will be a useful source of information.
We know that choosing a school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make and we hope that by browsing our website you will decide that St. Hugh’s is your school of choice. St Hugh’s Catholic Primary school is amongst the largest schools in the area, currently serving approximately 600 pupils. We are an extremely popular school with a long-standing excellent reputation.
At St Hugh’s, we set high expectations in all that we do. Our school is a warm, welcoming and inclusive community where every child is supported, encouraged and inspired to develop a love of learning. We nurture each child’s God-given unique skills and talents, helping them to grow with confidence and curiosity. We are incredibly proud of our happy, caring atmosphere and of our long-standing traditions of hard work, academic excellence, sporting achievement, creativity in the arts and drama, and strong involvement within our parish community.
At the heart of everything we do is Jesus, the greatest teacher of all. We strive to foster an environment rooted in love, forgiveness and compassion, encouraging all children to be the very best they can be as they live out our Mission Statement: “Walking in the footsteps of Jesus, growing in the light of His love.”
The core National Curriculum at St Hugh’s is richly enhanced by our extensive extended curriculum and enrichment offer. Children benefit from a wide range of opportunities, including sporting activities, music tuition, specialist teaching, drama, productions and educational visits. Our aim is simple: to help every child fulfil their full potential. We are proud that our outcomes for both attainment and progress remain significantly above national averages.
We serve the parish of St Hugh and St John, and our strong links ensure that every child is supported throughout both their faith journey and their educational journey. Our Parish Priest, Cannon Chris Matthews, plays an integral and valued role within school life. We were delighted to be judged ‘Outstanding’ in our last Denomination Inspection. Inspectors recognised that “the extremely strong relationship between home, school and parish is valued by parents, pupils and staff.” Pupils spoke of “a sense of community,” where “everyone has a friend,” and shared that “school rules are based on our faith.”
We are fortunate to feed into three excellent secondary schools: Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, Loreto Grammar School and St Ambrose College. Trafford operates a selective system, and many of our families choose a grammar school route following their time at St Hugh’s. Children attending our school receive priority for admission to our designated feeder schools.
We are confident that your child’s years at St Hugh’s will be both happy and successful. When they leave us for secondary school, we hope they will be equipped not only with the knowledge and skills needed to embrace new challenges with confidence, but also with a deep-rooted love of God that continues to guide and sustain them.
We are never complacent; we continually seek ways to grow, develop and further enhance the school experience for our children. We warmly welcome visits—there is no better way to understand why St Hugh’s is such a special place than to see it in action. I am immensely proud to be the Headteacher of this wonderful school. Our dedicated staff and Governing Body work tirelessly for our families, and our partnerships with parents are strong, positive and supportive.
We hope you enjoy exploring our website and that you return often to keep up to date with all that is happening at St Hugh’s.
