Pupil Voice
Pupil Voice is extremely important and as a school, we value the input, ideas and actions of our children, as we believe every child has the right to be heard. It is an important and useful way of providing leadership and development opportunities for our pupils.
A council is a formal group of pupils who work through an action plan. Each member acts as representative of their classmates in discussing areas, issues and improvements with staff members. The meetings follow an agenda, and a chair and secretary are appointed to lead the meetings and take minutes.
Each year, pupils express their interest in being part of our councils, and then their classmates vote them in. It is then the councillor’s responsibility to represent the views of their peers, with an aim to improve our school. During the year, there are opportunities for the council representatives to meet with curriculum leads, the SLT and governors.
Over the years, our councils have played a vital role in school improvement, based on the views, ideas and opinions of our pupils.
What makes a successful council?
A successful council is one that represents the views of all students and completes an action plan demonstrating how and when points will be addressed. In order for us to ensure our councils are effective, this is what we do:
Here at St Hugh’s, we have many different councils and group opportunities for pupils to take part in. Please click on the following links to see what our councils have been up to!
