Autumn 2

ART - Giuseppe Arcimboldo

In this lesson, the children explored the practice of collage using photographs representing earth, water, fire and air. It was a very enjoyable lesson where children made very good use of their cutting skills. Children showed accuracy and detail when producing their portraits.

Geography - Let’s visit Australia!

Today we found Australia on our class globe and on maps we had in our classroom. We then concentrated our time on Australia itself; learning about the different states and territories it is split up into. We think we might need more time to learn about these as they were very tricky! Mrs Fisher has been very silly and ‘cut’ up all the maps of Australia. We had fun piecing them all back together like a jigsaw, making sure all of them had 6 states and 2 territories.

Geography - Let’s visit Australia!

In this lesson, we were trying to be meteorologists. We found this word very tricky but we know it means talking about the weather. We watched some funny videos of children doing the weather forecast. In our whole class learning, we discovered that the weather can be very different in Australia than it is in the United Kingdom. We worked with our buddies to label a map of Australia based on weather key we had been given. Some of us then came to the front and said what the weather was like in different parts of Australia in the different months.

PE

This half-term we have focused on improving our fundamental skills through playground games. This is not only enjoyable in our PE lessons but we have been seen playing these games with our friends at playtime too!

Science - Senses

To begin our Senses topic, we explored our bodies as whole. We talked about the names of our body parts and what they can do. Some children even talked about what is inside their bodies like a heart, lungs, a brain and stomach. 1F love moving around the school to learn in different ways.

Science - Senses

1F explored their sense of touch by using feely boxes. They had to guess what items were in the boxes using only the sense of touch. We had a few surprises when we looked in the boxes at the end but it was all part of the fun.
